Baby Girl's Early Christmas -A Forever Home

So everyone knows how much I love animals, I work for animals, always trying to save animals, its just who I am! Well let me tell you a true story that I witnessed yesterday at work. Last Friday a lady named Shirley brought her dog BabyGirl, a 5 yr old Pitbull she'd rescued, to be boarded for a few days. She had just gotten her back from a young lady who wanted to keep her but was told by her landlord that no pets were allowed. 😟Yesterday she came in to pick her up so that she could take her down to Animal Care and Control. With tears in her eyes she said "God I just wish I could find someone to take her in". Meanwhile, there was a couple sitting in the lobby that had just brought their 15-year-old dog in to be "put to sleep",  they didn't want to witness it so they were waiting to be checked out. They overheard Shirley's plea and asked what kind of dog is it?She  told them and the story behind the dog and the man said "let me see her we might take her". After they both checked out, the dog was brought out and Shirley introduced Babygirl to them, she went to them like she knew them! The man IMMEDIATELY said "we will take her"! (are you crying yet?) needless to say everyone was crying Shirley and the young lady that couldn't keep her for answered prayers, the couple for a new pet to love on, and myself because I had just witnessed a miracle. Yes God is a God that answer prayers even Prayers about dogs. This Is why I do what I do

Valentine's Day

How many of you pet lovers went out and bought your pet a Valentines Day gift? I didn't. No I'm not a bad parent, I'm just one of those that buy gifts " just because" all year 'round " so when holidays come and I can't afford to shop I don't feel bad.

Animals have feelings too!

It's been 6 months since I've blogged. That's because I've had life changing circumstanes within my household.  I actually have another dog and 3 grandchildren living with me now! So much fun, even when I was on FMLA for 3 months. it was all about getting acclimated with the children, moving and getting settled into a whole new lifestyle, even if it is temporary. But during the course of this time I've noticed that my dog Maya and cat Whisper have had some adjustment issues as well.  So they both have been "acting out" and I had to realize it in order to address it.

What I discovered is that animals have emotions/feelings too. While going to the bathroom one night, Whisper jumped out at me and struck me on the foot, claw closed and ran away.  I didn't think nothing of it, its something she does normally during the day. It wasn't until she started doing it EVERY night and at one point hissed at me! She would even sleep in my granddaughters room for 3-4 days in a row and she has always slept in my bed at some point every night. Maya on the other hand would be playing our normal game of wrestling and I noticed she would bark louder and with more force than usual at one point even growling.  Some days when I'd get home from work Maya would jump into my lap (she's not allowed on furniture) and not want to get down, period.  Whisper, who usually waits till bedtime to cuddle would also come downstairs and jump in my lap and get up on my shoulder.  I knew then they were requesting the "alone time" they were use to getting before the kids and their dog Cherish (Chi Chi).

So now I set aside time for them daily but especially on my off days. It has gotten a little better, Maya has started playing with Chi Chi and its a joy to hear them play. She's still a little jealous when I pay Chi Chi any attention. Whisper has the attitude of "it is what it is" but she gets her time EVERY night when I go to bed.

So if you have pets and your home dynamics change, don't forget to include them in your new routine so they don't feel slighted or abandoned. Remember, Pets have feelings too!

Taking a day off for your Pet

Do you love your pet(s)? Think about it, if they are sick, do you pamper them, give them TLC, cook for them or better yet, take a day off work, just to be with them.  Personally, I have done some of the above and went to work late after I took my pet to the vet. If you wake up and he/she is vomiting or has diahrrea, do you do the norm - feed them, walk them and then set off to work/school like nothing is wrong or hoping "it'll be alright by the time I get back home".  So many pet owners have found themselves in this situation only to come back and their pet has passed away or is VERY very ill.  This is just one more thing to think about when you are considering adopting a new pet.  Nothing outrageous, just part of being a good pet owner.

Christmas with Family Friends and Pets

As we enjoyed our day with family and friends, talking laughing eating and watching the games, I realized something was missing.....my "babies" my cat Whisper and my pup Miya Angel.  As the hours went by quickly, we soon start to say our goodbyes. When questioned why are you leaving so early, I had to tell them "my babies are at home and we've been out all day".  Their response: "What babies"? When I answered Whisper and Miya, they all smirked or gave me that look like, are you serious? Well, yes I am. See I'm not one of those pet owners that can just leave them home all day while I'm out enjoying myself. I feel bad enough when I leave them 8-12 hours a day to go to work. So when I'm off I try to be home with them as much as possible especially Miya who is kenneled when we're not home. My goal is to give her as much out time as she is in. Still not able to leave her alone, she's a small puppy! Can you imagine the mischief! So with that we gave our hugs and kisses good bye and of course one of them had to say it: "you and your animals" and I was like "yes that's me!  Anyone ever feel like this?
